Auction Programmed

The entire software stock of a Lincoln computer shop is to go under the hammer at an auction in Scunthorpe next week (Tuesday September 6th).

The company . . . Tasc, which was based on the High Street . . . went into liquidation and closed its doors two months ago.

Paul Cooper, a director of industrial auctioneers CJM Asset Management, who are selling the stock, said: “Like many independent High street computer outlets, they struggled to compete with on-line retailers, who do not have the expense of prominent retail premises and are therefore able to undercut them.”

“In all next Tuesday’s auction has almost forty lots of software, ranging right the way through to expensive business packages. There is a large quantity of Sage software, the accounting programme. Some of the packages are for multiple-users and retail at in excess of a thousand pounds.”

“At auction software typically makes 10%-30% of retail prices, so if we’ve got what people want there are some bargains to be had.”

“The more expensive software is to be sold in individual or small lots, to give the private buyer a chance. Where there are cheaper items or repetition, we tend to sell in larger quantities, which will mainly be of interest to trade buyers.

“There are also another forty lots of computers and hardware that’s been sent for sale from the company.”

The auction will also see machinery and equipment from another failed Lincoln company go under the hammer. Sticky Polly, which manufactured polythene bags, has gone into liquidation.

Paul said: “Following the closure a major finance company which owned the majority of the firm’s equipment has instructed us to sell it off.”

“The kit includes a range of bag making machines, as well as folders and sealers, which are expected to make a few thousand pounds apiece.”

The auction at CJM’s site on Brigg Road in Scunthorpe extends to over 700 lots including engineering and woodworking machinery, garage equipment and commercial catering items.”

The vehicles section of the sale includes several forklift trucks, expected to sell for up to £1,500, plus a V-registration Renault Kangoo van, two Ford Transits and 2 pizza delivery scooters.

There are also 10 rodeo electric mini scooters, never used and still in their original boxes.

The viewing sessions for the auction are on Monday (5th September) 11am-6pm and on Tuesday morning from 8.30am until the start of the sale at 10 am. Catalogues are available from CJM or can be downloaded free of charge from the firm’s website: www.cjmasset.com
