Pot a Bargain!
Brand new snooker and pool tables valued at in excess of £30,000 are to be sold off in a sealed bid tender sale in Scunthorpe next week following the collapse of a Birkenhead company.
The Leisure Enterprises Group was a leading supplier of tables to the snooker hall, pub and hotel trades, as well as having a major Internet sales division selling to the domestic market.
A considerable quantity of the firm’s stock was put under the hammer at industrial auctioneers CJM Asset Management in Scunthorpe last month after being seized by bailiffs in lieu of unpaid rent. The bailiffs had difficulty seizing the stock of tables, which they had previously exercised a distraint on, but now this issue is resolved the tables are available for sale.
The company has subsequently gone into liquidation and the liquidators now handling the affairs of the business have instructed CJM to sell off the most valuable assets – the pool and snooker tables.
CJM director Paul Cooper said: “”We’ve got nine pool and snooker tables of various sizes that are set up and ready to go, plus a couple that simply need the baize to be fitted. In addition we’ve been sent others, including a full-sized table, that are still flat-packed and need to be put together.”
“Some of the pool tables are the coin-operated pub-type, although these have not yet been fitted with the coin mechanisms, so they could go into the games room as well as being fitted up for commercial use.”
“The star lots on the list are two three quarter size snooker tables with dining table tops that are expected to go for £800-£1,000, a third of their retail value. Other tables will go for two or three hundred pounds upwards. Pool tables usually sell for £400-£500 but these are new, unused, and decent quality, so they could do slightly better.”
In addition to the tables a large number of cues, sets of balls and other equipment have also been sent for disposal.
Meanwhile the sale also includes seven professional-quality weight training machines that have been sent for sale by a major local company that is upgrading its staff gym facilities.
Speaking about the sealed bid tender sale, Mr. Cooper said: “In quantity terms there is just not enough to make it economic to stage an auction, which is why we have opted for sealed bid.”
“The viewing days are at the saleroom on Brigg Road on Tuesday (15th) 1pm-7pm and Wednesday (16th) 8.30am-noon. People who wish to make a bid complete a form and the highest takes the item. The deadline for bids is noon on Wednesday.”
In total the sale extends to 108 lots. The catalogue is on the firm’s website: www.cjmasset.com.
