Global Ambition

Charles Moses, Managing Director

Industrial auctioneer CJM Asset Management is moving to increase the firm’s international profile and business.

The North Lincolnshire-based company . . . already one of the top half dozen industrial auctioneering operations in the UK . . . made its debut appearance as an exhibitor at Resale 2006 at Karlsruhe in Germany this year. The event is the most important annual used machinery and equipment show in the world.

Meanwhile the firm has formed a joint venture partnership with Parkgate Engineering, the world’s leading rolling mills and metal processing plant specialists, and has been in discussions concerning a joint venture with partners in Malaysia to launch a new plant and machinery sales and auction service in the Far East.

Director Charles Moses said: “ The market for used plant, machinery and equipment is global and in order to continue to develop our business we need to build both our international profile and our customer base.”

“In the past 12 months alone we have concluded major sales to China, Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Brazil and the United States, as well as all over Europe.”

“Resale is the largest and most important annual exhibition in the world in the used machinery and equipment business. We’ve been regular visitors for several years but this year was the first time that we’ve taken a stand.”

“We had an extremely successful week. The main aim was to get the name about and to meet major buyers but the investment produced immediate results and sales.

“Since the exhibition the number of hits on our website has trebled.”

“Also as a direct result of contacts at the exhibition a number of deals have been agreed. Those include the sale of four sheet metal presses on behalf of a Scottish company to buyers in Argentina, a deal worth in excess of a quarter of a million pounds.”

“We did meet thousands of people from all over the world looking to buy equipment and we’ve formed promising links with buyers in markets where we have not previously done a lot of business.”

“Those include Iraq, which perhaps is not a country that would immediately spring to mind as a promising area for business. However, when the security problems are eventually overcome and they begin to rebuild the economy it is likely to become a massive market for equipment.”

Charles added: “The joint venture partnership with Parkgate Engineering, who are based in Dorset, follows collaboration on several successful projects. They are probably the leading players in the world in terms of their specialist knowledge of rolling mills and metal processing plant.

“The joint venture will combine their technical expertise with our global marketing skills to get the best prices we can for clients who are disposing of plant. The projects we’re working on together are all very large, multi-million dollars, and all over the world.”

“Meanwhile the Far Eastern joint venture that we have been discussing involves Malaysia’s leading firm of valuers and again involves combining our global auctioneering and marketing expertise with the strength and contacts that they have in their market. It is a very exciting opportunity.”
